Upclose with Prof. Felix Engmann: An Associate Professor of Food Science

Prof. Felix Narku Engmann is an Associate Professor of Food Science, Food Technology, Nutrition Sanitation and Safety.

Prof. Engmann has the passion for promoting sustainable utilisation of indigenous foods for better health and poverty alleviation. He is motivated by the positive impact his research and teaching could have on food and nutrition security and on job creation in Ghana.

Prof. Felix Narku Engmann received his PhD in Food Science and Engineering from Jiangsu University, China in 2014. Currently, he is the Head of Department of Food Technology in Kumasi Technical University under the Faculty of Applied Science and Technology. He is a member in Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) as well as Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland (REHIS). Some of his research works focus on product development using underutilized food commodities into affordable, nutritious and well packaged forms for consumer appeal.

Prof. Engmann on KsTU’s introduction of the new Food Technology programme, believes food has a role in promoting tourism in the country and students can develop their skills to make progress in meeting the growing demand for food around the world. On his part, he believes that advancement in this field will lead to improved quality of food, safety consumption, variety of food items, affordable costs of food items, better preservation techniques, and lesser wastage. 

Prof. Engmann has had the opportunity to serve as an external examiner in KNUST, UDS among other Universities in Ghana and also doubles as an assessor for the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) for assessment of accreditation and promotions for some Universities in Ghana.
