Bachelor of Technology In Accounting With Computing (4 Years)

BTech Accounting with Computing Programme has been designed generally to fulfil the objectives of government converting the Polytechnics to Technical University which is to give students hands on skills to enable them solve day to day accounting and finance problems in industry. Students will be equipped with various competencies in the areas of Database Management Systems, Network Technology, Business Information Systems Audit, Spread Sheet, Accounting Information Systems, Logic and Critical Thinking, Spreadsheet Design, Enterprise Resource Planning, etc. and this is expected to enable them develop basic business solutions for application in industry. Also, critically, as part of the collaboration with industry, students will also have the opportunity to be exposed to the world of work by having industrial attachment in relevant industry.

Target Market and Employment Prospects

This programme has been designed to cater for the needs of students graduating from Senior Secondary School into the university to offer degree in Accounting. This is to take advantage of the growing number of people who will be graduating from the free Senior High School Education. It is also targeted at post diploma students who would be joining the programme at various levels.

It is additionally, targeted at candidates who will be enrolling through the matured entry level. Students who also hold Intermediate qualifications from Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG) and Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA) can have access to the programme.

The sectors of the economy our graduates could be employed are varied and wide ranging from public to private, including Accounting and Audit, Banking and Financial services, Construction, Pharmaceutical firms, Insurance, Merchandising, Mining, Oil and Gas, Timber, Manufacturing, Health, Agriculture, Education, Hospitality and Leisure, Engineering, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) etc. and this is so because essentially every business activity undertaken involves financial implications.

To be admitted into the Bachelor of Technology programme, an applicant must have:
   

  1. WASSCE Applicants Credit Passes (A1-C6) in six subjects comprising three core subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, plus three relevant elective subjects (i.e. Financial Accounting, Business Management, Costing Accounting, Economics, Elective Mathematics, Geography and Government). Science and Arts students who satisfy the criteria may be considered.
  2. SSSCE Applicants Credit Passes (A-D) in six subjects comprising three core subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, plus three relevant elective subjects. (i.e. Financial Accounting, Business Management, Costing Accounting, Economics, Elective Mathematics, Geography and Government). Science and Arts students who satisfy the criteria may be considered.
  3. GCE “O” and “A” Level Passes in three (3) subjects (at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better). Also, the applicant must have had credit passes (Grade 6) in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects including the English Language, and Mathematics.
  4. GBCE Applicants Credit Passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects including English Language, Business Mathematics and Social Studies or Science plus three (3) elective subjects will be considered for admission at level 100 of the program.
  5. ABCE Applicants with Full Diploma Certificate in ABCE must also have credit passes in five (5) subjects including English Language, Business Mathematics, Integrated Science or Social Studies in the General Business Certificate Examination (GBCE) or Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) or West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) to be considered for level 200 of a degree programme.
  6. Other Certificates Applicants with Teachers’ Certificate ‘A’ and a pass in English, Mathematics and two other subjects at the GCE ‘O’ level or Senior High School or GBC or RSA II etc. may be considered for admission.
  7. HND, Diploma and Professional Certificates Holders Categories
    1. HND ACCOUNTANCY and ACCUNTING WITH COMPUTING Holders of HND Accounting with Computing will be admitted to pursue the B-Tech Accountancy with Computing in level 300. OTHER
    2. HND APPLICANTS Holders of Full HND Certificate in other business-related disciplines such as Procurement, Marketing, Banking, Finance and Entrepreneurship from any recognized institution will be admitted to level 200 or level 300 depending on the earlier programme content.
    3. DIPLOMA IN COMPUTERISED ACCOUNTING (DCA) APPLICANTS Holders of Diploma in Computerised Accounting (DCA) certificate will be considered for admission to level 200 of the program.
    4. Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) AND General Accounting Technician (GAT) APPLICANTS Holders of CAT OR GAT certificate or equivalents will be admitted to level will be considered for admission to level 200 of the program.
    5. ACCA and ICA APPLICANTS An applicant with passes in 9 or more subjects in ICAG, ACCA or equivalents will be considered for admission to level 300 of the program while those at level 1 will be considered for admission at level 100 of the Program.  
  8. Mature Applicants – Must be 25 years old with legitimate documentary proof which is at least five (5) years old at the time of application, must pass Mature Students’ Entrance Examinations conducted by KsTU, may have to attend and pass an interview. Evidence of working experience will be an added advantage.  
  9. Foreign Applicants Academic records of foreign applicants will be referred to GTEC for the determination of qualification equivalence and eligibility for admission as well as placement.
