Four students from Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) have been given a rare chance of embarking on a ten-month memorable educational trip to the United States of America. The programme had participants from over eight different countries around the world. The programme which was fully funded by the United States Department had students from different departments of KsTU attending. The students were Alex Kwame Gurah (Banking and Finance), Beatrice Borkor (Chemical Engineering), Dorcas Eva Mensah (HCIM) and Bridget Adu, also from the Banking and Finance department. It is worth mentioning that these were the best students from their respective departments.
The programme was structured into five main pillars namely, Academic, Internship, Volunteering, Cultural Exchange and Leadership with the overarching aim of sharing ideas to the maximum benefit of each student. The highly intensive programme combined practical work with theory. Alex had the opportunity of studying at Houston Community College, Beatrice attended Northern Virginia Community College, Dorcas attended Kirkwood Community College while Bridget got enrolled into Northampton Community College.
All the four students performed creditably to the admiration of their professors as they won awards and received great recommendations during their studies. Some of them got to the extent of acquiring a grade akin to a Grade Point Average of 4.0 in a specific cohort, being the best volunteer and therefore, placed on the presidential list.
At the arrival of these four students of KsTU, they were full of praise for the University for availing to them such an opportunity in their life. They encouraged the other students of the University to take their studies more seriously as there are greater opportunities in that. They further intimated that using virtual strategies for learning has come to stay. According to them, during their internship, most of their studies were done online even before the outbreak of COVID-19. They therefore advised their fellow students to brace themselves up for that global trend.
