DR. LORD EMMANUEL ASAMOAH joined Kumasi Polytechnic as Principal in 1997 and left the institution in 2005 after eight years of meritorious service.

During his tenure, the Polytechnic saw a remarkable facelift in terms of infrastructure, programmes, resource mobilisation and indeed in all aspects of academic and administrative benchmarks.

“Sir Lord”, as he was affectionately called, remarkably transformed Kumasi Polytechnic into a very respectable academic institution, a situation that has been sustained by successive rectors.

Professional Career

Dr. Asamoah started his professional career as a teacher, at the Wiawso Teachers Training College at Sefwi-Wiawso in the Western Region in 1972 and left in 1975 to pursue further studies at the KNUST.

In 1978, he was employed at KNUST School of Mines -Tarkwa where he taught technical writing. While at KNUST-SMT, the your Dr. Asamoah was also an Assistant Registrar in charge of student affairs, Registry, Human Resource and General Administration. He left in 1981 to pursue further studies in the United States of America

Dr. Asamoah also worked at the School of Engineering, Ohio University, Athens, USA (1982 – 88) and Kumasi Polytechnic (1994 – 97), where he taught technical Report Writing, Business Communication and Communication Skills, as a part-time Senior Lecturer.

He has the enviable record of being one of few administrators in the tertiary sector in Ghana who rose through the ranks to become the head of a high profile tertiary institution, Kumasi Polytechnic.

Upon his return from America in 1988, Dr. Asamoah returned to KNUST – SMT where he held very important portfolios until he was appointed Rector of Kumasi Polytechnic.

Education

Dr. Asamoah entered the St. Andrew Teacher Training College, Mampong  - Ashanti in 1962 and completed in 1996 obtaining a Teachers’ Certificate  ‘’A’’.

In 1970 he entered the Advanced Teacher Training College, now University of Education, and Winneba for a specialist programme in English.

He excelled during his studies there and graduated in 1972 with a distinction in English and Practical Teaching.

Dr. Asamoah enrolled at the University of Science and Technology where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Science. He majored in English and Law.

Following his sterling academic performance, it came as no surprise when Dr. Asamoah was awarded a scholarship to study at Ohio University, Athens, USA, where he pursued a Master of Arts Programme in English, majoring in Technical Writing.

No sooner had he completed the Masters programme than he was offered an extended scholarship for a PhD programme in English Literature in 1984. His area of specialisation was Restoration and Eighteenth Century Literature (1660-1800). Dr. Asamoah graduated in 1988 with the award of a Ph.D.

It is noteworthy to state that Dr. Asamoah was awarded an Outstanding Teacher Award at the Ohio University in 1986-1987.

Between 1982 – 88, Dr. Asamoah served as a member of the Board of Directors of the International Understanding Honour Society, USA.

Service to country

To say that Dr. Asamoah has fully paid his dues to his country and society is a huge understatement as, between 1997 and 2010, he served as a member of National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE), National Accreditation Board (NAB) and the National Board for Professional and Technical Examinations (NABPTEX).

Within the same timeframe, Dr. Asamoah also served as a member of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) and the Ghana Education Service Council.

It is gratifying to note that he was also appointed the Chairman of the Council of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COTVET).
Travels

Dr. Asamoah has accrued a lot of air miles, travelling widely around the world on official and private capacities. In Africa, he has been to the Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Mali.

In Europe, Dr. Asamoah has been to the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and France while he has been to China as well. He has also been to Canada and of course the United States in North America.

Expertise and Interests

Dr. Lord Asamoah is an expert in speech writing and Public Speaking and lists teaching, tennis, flower gardening, landscaping, reading and public speaking as his hobbies.

Academic works

Dr. Asamoah has a large portfolio of academic publications to his credit. He has also made several presentations at both local and international conferences.

In 1985, Dr. Asamoah presented a paper titled, “Stubborn Whites Cause Strife in South Africa,” to the Coalition for the Elimination of Apartheid in South Africa. The paper was later published in The Athens News on 22nd August, 1985.

Family

Dr. Lord Asamoah, a native of Bodwesango in the Ashanti Region is married to Mrs. Bernice Asamoah and they have three grown up children.

He is retired from public service but is currently actively engaged in livestock farming.
