KsTU Showcases ENFOG Project at International Women’s Day Conference in Northern Ireland

Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) University (KsTU) has demonstrated its commitment to promoting gender inclusivity in engineering education at an international conference held in Northern Ireland.

The Engineering for Girls (ENFOG) Project, funded by the British Council under the Going Global Partnerships Grants, was featured during an International Women’s Day Conference organised by Northern Regional College in Coleraine, Northern Ireland.

Held under the theme “GiveToGain,” the conference brought together academics, industry professionals, and policy influencers dedicated to expanding opportunities for women and promoting inclusive development across sectors.

Representing KsTU, Ing. Prof. Abena Agyeiwaa Obiri Yeboah, Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University, participated in a panel discussion titled “Give Wisdom.” During the session, she emphasised the importance of mentorship, knowledge transfer, and deliberate investment in nurturing young women pursuing careers in engineering and related disciplines.

She encouraged participants to support the development of future generations through mentorship and knowledge sharing.

Prof. Obiri Yeboah also shared aspects of her personal journey in engineering, reflecting on the experiences, challenges, and determination that shaped her path to leadership in academia. Her remarks underscored the need for sustained support systems that empower young women to pursue and succeed in engineering and other STEM-related fields.

In a complementary session titled “Give Perspective,” Ing. Prof. Julius Ahiekpor, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at KsTU, delivered a presentation on the vision and impact of the ENFOG Project. His presentation highlighted the initiative’s achievements and its role in encouraging more girls to pursue engineering education while promoting greater gender inclusivity in the field.

He further emphasised the importance of institutions such as KsTU in providing opportunities for young women to study Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and contribute meaningfully to national and global development.

The conference provided an important international platform to showcase the progress and impact of the ENFOG Project, strengthen cross-border collaboration, and reaffirm KsTU’s commitment to advancing opportunities for women in engineering.

KsTU was well represented at the conference, highlighting the University’s growing role in global conversations on gender equality, education, and innovation in engineering.

Kumasi Technical University was established in 1954 as Kumasi Technical Institute (K. T. I. ) to offer craft courses. In 1963, the Institute was converted to a non-tertiary Polytechnic status under the Ghana Education Service to start offering, in addition, technician diploma and sub- professional courses.
